Suno, a ChatGPT-like AI music model, has raised $125 million in funding from investors, enhancing its music generation capabilities and setting a new standard in the industry. The AI music startup aims to revolutionize the music industry with innovative technology. Suno’s platform can create AI-generated music and vocals, setting it apart in the competitive AI music space.
Suno announced the funding round, which included investors such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross, Matrix, and Founder Collective. The funds will accelerate product development and expand Suno’s team of music enthusiasts and technologists.
“We started Suno to build a future where anyone can make music. To help people rediscover the joy of play and exploration we had as kids. Technology is a means to that end, and today’s state-of-the-art creates the potential for a flourishing of new sounds, new styles, and new artists in a way we’ve always dreamt about,” Suno co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman said in a statement.
Unique Features and Industry Impact
Suno operates like a ChatGPT for music, allowing users to input phrases and keywords to generate complete songs. This capability to produce music and vocals distinguishes Suno from other AI models like Google’s and Udio’s. Mikey Shulman said the new funds would help Suno develop its v3 model to create radio-quality music in seconds.
However, the rise of AI music has sparked both excitement and concern. Record labels and artists have called for regulation to prevent AI from using their work without consent. Recently, over 200 artists, including Billie Eilish and Nicki Minaj, signed a letter urging AI companies to stop using their music without permission.
Meanwhile, some artists are embracing the technology. FKA Twigs plans to launch an AI deepfake of herself, and Randy Travis used an AI voice clone for his first song since his stroke in 2013.
Suno Advisors and Future Plans
Suno’s advisory team includes prominent figures such as 3LAU, Aaron Levie, and Flosstradamus. With their guidance and the new funding, Suno is poised to make significant strides in the AI music industry, enhancing creativity and efficiency in music production.
Suno’s $125 million funding will boost AI music creation. As the company advances its technology and expands its team, it aims to reshape the music landscape, balancing innovation with industry concerns.
