The all-new Tesla Model S Plaid is pitched as the quickest and most advanced car in the world. The founder of the company, Elon Musk, claims it to be faster than any Porsche and safer than any Volvo. S Plaid was launched officially in the US during an event held at the electric vehicle manufacturer’s Fremont facility in California.
The latest “Delivery-event” was live-streamed from Fremont, California. Musk launched the latest, fastest Tesla, on a quarter-mile runway, not far away from the site where the first Model S was manufactured.
Tesla Model S Plaid has been launched at a price of $ 129,990 (roughly converted to almost ₹95 lakh). The earlier price of $119,990 was hiked by Tesla just 24 hours before the event, along with price hikes for some of its other models.

Super Performance of S Plaid
The new Tesla Model S Plaid has a tri-motor setup, delivering 1020 hp of peak power across the rev band. It goes on to hit 0-100 kph in 1.99 seconds. It is the first-ever of its kind quickest production car ever made. “It’s also the fastest production car to complete a quarter-mile” (400 meters) according to Musk.
The Model S Plaid features new battery architecture, which, in Plaid configuration, gives the Model S a range of 627km on a single charge. Even Supercharging speed has been optimized, says Musk. The new car can obtain roughly 300km worth of charge in under 15 minutes.
The Plaid packs an all-new battery pack, new carbon sleeper rotors, and torque vectoring – the latter allowing the optimal distribution of power to individual wheels in milliseconds. Part of its outrageous acceleration figure is also because this is the slipperiest car ever made. “The Tesla Model S Plaid has the lowest drag coefficient of any car ever made. And we’ve tested that while the wheels were in motion,” said Musk.
S.Plaid has also been engineered for maximum safety. However, while no independently assessed crash safety assessment has verified this claim yet. Musk claims that it has been designed to get a five-star safety rating and is essentially “faster than any Porsche. Safer than any Volvo” that may deal another of crippling blows to European prestige car brands.
Tesla took nine years to come out with this performance version of the Model S sedan. Tesla Model S Plaid aims to take on rivals like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Lucid Motors in the luxury electric vehicle market.
